Man City 2024 /2025
After becoming the first team in English league history to secure four consecutive league titles in the 2023/24 season, the dominant Cityzens are now aiming for a fifth in a row next season.
GK: Stefan Ortega
After winning numerous titles with Manchester City, Ederson wants to leave this summer. The Brazilian, feeling undervalued towards the end of last season despite widespread praise for backup Ortega, might be heading to the Saudi Pro League. If the move happens, Ortega, who played a crucial role in City’s title win last season by denying Son Heung-min in a one-on-one situation, will take over as the first-choice goalkeeper.
CB: Manuel Akanji
The “human calculator” has proven to be one of the smartest acquisitions made by the Cityzens in recent years. Versatile across the backline, Akanji is a strong yet composed defender who excels in an aggressive defense. He has become a standout player in this City backline.
CB: Ruben Dias
The 2023/24 season wasn’t Dias’ finest, but he found his form towards the end. Though more prone to errors than his defensive partners, Dias is an exceptional box defender and the leader of this sky-blue defense.
CB: Josko Gvardiol
The Croatian excelled in an advanced left-back role towards the end of last season, with his sudden and unexpected goal streak aiding Guardiola’s side to the title.
Gvardiol initially struggled to adapt, but it now seems he’ll be a mainstay in this defense for years to come. However, with Guardiola likely to make adjustments next season, Gvardiol might take on a more conservative role on the left side of the defense. Nathan Ake remains another excellent option.
CM: John Stones
Similar to Dias, Stones experienced a bit of a decline last season and wasn’t at his 2022/23 best at the Euros either. Guardiola has a plethora of configurations at his disposal, but he might return to the system that brought so much success during the second half of their title-winning campaign. Stones excelled in the hybrid center-back/central midfield role.
CM: Rodri
He did lose a match to end the 2023/24 season, but his winning mentality continued into the summer as he earned Player of the Tournament honors during Spain’s successful Euro 2024 campaign.
RM: Savio
The Brazilian’s arrival might highlight the issues with multi-club ownership, but City will benefit from Savio’s emerging talent after he starred for Girona last season.
A technical dribbler effective on both flanks, Savio is a free spirit who will likely create less chaos than Jeremy Doku. While Doku had his moments during his debut season and could still play a significant role, it wouldn’t be surprising if Savio quickly moves ahead of him in the pecking order.
AM: Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne might play a slightly reduced role next season, especially if City acquire Dani Olmo. Despite transfer rumors, Guardiola has confirmed that his midfield powerhouse will remain at the Etihad.
AM: Phil Foden
After the best season of his career, Foden faced heavy scrutiny at Euro 2024 and will be eager to return to City. With De Bruyne missing much of 2023/24, Foden stepped up immensely, helping City claim their fourth-straight league title. Despite an underwhelming Euros, Foden remains a superstar.
LM: Jack Grealish
A comeback seems likely for Grealish in 2024/25, provided he stays injury-free. He looks sharp in pre-season after a rough last term. Though Doku overtook him towards the end, Guardiola values Grealish’s ability to retain possession in the final third over the Belgian’s speed.
ST: Erling Haaland
Haaland will lead City’s line next season, continuing to score plenty of goals.
