Spain secures Euro 2024 title with a decisive victory over England. Goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal led La Roja to triumph.
Cole Palmer netted an equalizer for the Three Lions, but it wasn’t enough to stop Spain from claiming their fourth European Championship.
Spain late to beat England 2-1 and win the final of Euro 2024
All three goals came in the second half and Spain just about managed to prevail at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Sunday.
The first half yielded little in the way of chances, with England doing well to stifle Spain. Luke Shaw, drafted in for Kieran Trippier at left-back, managed to do a good job nullifying Lamine Yamal in particular.
Rodri was withdrawn at half-time and that appeared to be a good omen for England, but Spain broke the deadlock shortly after the beginning of the second half. A well-worked move saw Yamal come inside and find fellow winger Nico Williams, who stroked the ball home at the far post.
With just under 20 minutes left, England equalized. Bukayo Saka sprinted down the right on a quick breakaway, but Spain’s defense regrouped, obstructing his path. Saka’s cutback found Jude Bellingham, who instinctively passed to Cole Palmer. Palmer then calmly slotted the ball home from the edge of the box.
